Think of wide plains, vast herds and brightly dressed warriors and you have a small glimpse of Eastern Africa!! Kenya and Tanzania are the places to visit to experience the migration of the herds – depending on what time of year and which part of this vast area you visit. Zanzibar provides white sand and great coral reefs.

What a great combination of wildlife, culture and beaches!

It is in this area that you get the migrations when herds follow their natural instincts in search of food and water. This is a process that takes all year from one area to the next as the herd does what comes naturally.

There is never a guarantee of being there at the “right” time but if it’s animals you want then you are in the right place.

Kenya has amazing highland regions and natural reserves, freshwater lakes – a great combination for wildlife viewing. Tanzania also provides outstanding wildlife reserves and national parks. You can also visit local tribes and bushmen and then of course there is the stunning island of Zanzibar.

Kenya
Generally, the hottest time is in February and March and the coldest in July and August. The coastal region is largely humid and wet while the low plateau area is the driest part of the country.

Nairobi, in the temperate Kenya highlands, receives an average annual rainfall of 790 mm (31 in) and experiences average temperatures ranging from 9° to 29°C in January and 7° to 26°C in July. Higher elevation areas within the highlands receive much larger amounts of rainfall.

Rainfall occurs seasonally throughout most of Kenya. The coast, eastern plateaus, and lake basin experience two rainy seasons:  March to June when the long rains occur and October to December when the shorter rains come. The highlands of western Kenya have a single rainy season, lasting from March to September. 

Tanzania
Due to its closeness to the equator, Tanzania does not have big variations in temperature. April and May is usually wet.  As the country has varying topography, Tanzania has many regional variations.

Masai Mara – the most famous game park in Kenya . In July each year the Great Migration occurs when millions of wildebeest travel to the Serengeti plains in search of fresh pastures.

Serengeti National Park -  home to over 3 million animals and it is from here that the migration begins .  January and February are good game viewing months . Don’t forget to indulge in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti

Ngorongoro Crater – an amazing setting for a natural conservation area.

The open grasslands, the local Masai Mara people, Lake Nakuru – World Heritage Listed

Zanzibar Island has beautiful white sandy beaches with coral reefs.  Stone Town , a world Heritage Site is the cultural centre of Zanzibar. Her you will experience  Mosques, bazaars and historic Arab houses.
